"Real Madrid and Barcelona Eye Former Manchester United Defender Alvaro Fernandez"

Real Madrid and Barcelona are reportedly preparing to compete for Alvaro Fernandez, a young defender Manchester United sold for £5 million during the summer. Fernandez, now 21, moved to Benfica, where he has quickly made an impression, appearing in seven league matches and twice in the Champions League.

Fernandez, who has played for Spain’s U21 team, began his career at Real Madrid’s academy before transferring to Manchester United in 2020. Despite being involved in United's youth teams and making it to the bench for Premier League games, he never played in a senior match for the club.

Now, both Real Madrid and Barcelona are keeping a close eye on the left-back, with Atletico Madrid and Juventus also showing interest. Fernandez’s strong performances have turned heads, and with United currently struggling with injuries in the left-back position, they may regret letting him go so easily.

As interest grows, Fernandez's value has risen, and he could soon secure a move to one of Europe's top clubs.
